I tend to view "amongst" as archaic, but "whilst" as an Anglo-Irish colloquialism. And I don't know TO WHOM you are referring, Alden. I don't know anyone WHO uses "whom" as the subjective case on this board. If they do, I've blessedly forgotten. Since when is being grammatically correct archaic, though? "Whom" is by no means archaic. It is the ONLY grammatically correct OBJECTIVE usage. Meaning "by whom", "for whom" "whom do you seek" etc. "Who" is SUBJECTIVE, as in "who is calling", "who the hell are you" and "Betty Lou Who". It's the same thing as I/me, he/him, she/her. You know....since you went there, and all. Firecat, Do you recall who said, "Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put." I love that quote.

If you look into the Regan cases more closely, you'll see that the female employee who claimed to have been attacked by Regan waited a month to report the attack. Which, in and of itself, is perfectly understandable. Happens often. But in Regan's case, it's also convenient. There were no witnesses and no evidence. Nothing more than he said/she said. I believe the main benefit of that case was to get a DNA sample from Regan, who was happy to give it at the time, not knowing how it would later be used against him. Only after that, and only after O'Leary was about to be appointed Waterbury Chief, did it hit O'Leary "like a ton of bricks" that it must have been Regan who raped Palumbo 12 - that's TWELVE - years earlier. The clock had already run out on rape, so Regan was charged with kidnapping. I'm not questioning Ms. Palumbo here. But the crime scene was totally contaminated. Only 12 years later did a bed sheet with what was reported to have been Regan's semen on it surface. But the identity of the bed sheet itself was never documented. At best, it was simply rolled up and put in an evidence locker by a uniformed officer on the scene. Or it was found somewhere else. There's just no way of really knowing. I think the Waterbury charges against Regan are at least questionable. The question is why, on the heels of these two serious charges, would Regan try to abduct a high school track star from a populated parking lot in Saratoga Springs? The student was accompanied by two of her friends, two of her coaches were nearby. Regan needed supreme confidence that he could put the victim into his van and then disappear. Almost literally, like Maura Murray did. And Molly Bish did. Remember, this was not an isolated area. There were witnesess, it was Halloween, there was rush-hour traffic (Saratoga level). There must have been more to his plan than simply driving out of the parking lot with someone in tip top physical condition in the back of his van and just hoping no one would notice. How could an abduction like this not be noticed? In a sort of similar way Maura Murray's abduction might not be noticed? Or Molly Bish's? The Saratoga Springs case is well worth re-examining because of the similarities between it and the Murray and Bish cases. I doubt very much that Regan committed the Murray abduction (if that's what it was), but I'll bet he may well have either known the person or people who did commit it, or he and the possible abductor(s) had a mutual friend.

Why are sightings of Maura never investigated by PI or LE? How is it that no one knows how the Saturn arrived at WB or who drove it? Why aren't the ATM and store tapes known by anyone? Why did people in Amhest say things like "I don't want to get her in trouble" but then never came forward after all these years? Why so damn secretive about the art gallery where she worked? Why can't anyone answer these questions? Excellent questions. Maybe because people have signed non-disclosure statements? Maybe because they have appeared before a grand jury? Maybe because they are scared? Whatever the reason(s), the lack of information about this cases seems to mirror the strange way so many posts on this thread dwell exclusively on the crash site.

It's always possible that someone associated with the East Penn Traction Club played a role in this.

I made a mistake, Dennis Robert Towle went missing in August of 2002 from Woodsville.
No one has ever found it odd or tragic that (2) people have gone missing from the same small town within (2) years of one another?
Well just the same, I've joined a new forum for missing persons and cold cases that encourages posting missing persons and thus far Maura's is the only one registered in NH so I'll be adding his case along with the many others.
I'm up to (12) missing persons in NH.
Only (4) of these individuals are listed on the NHSP website. Maura, Blaine Hector, Tina & Bethany Sinclair.

Maura Murray? A Saturn registered to her father was found there, and she disappeared around the same time, but there is no reliable indication that SHE disappeared from Woodsville. She was last reliably seen in the Amherst area.

Couple of interesting articles in the weekend edition of the Hampshire Gazette (Northampton MA).
"A former Belchertown police officer pladed innocent Wednesday the charges of forcibly raping a child and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years old or older.
"[He] had been previously arraigned in Hampden Superior Court on identical charges on Aug. 13...
"The earlier incident... involved a different victim..."
The officer had previously resigned his job after his conviction for domestic assault and battery.
Innocent until proved guilty, for sure, but LE does and will prosecute its own. Sometimes. Sometimes not. Hard to predict when and why.
**********
"Angry that he couldn't get his truck back after it was towed..."
A Northampton man would not voluntarily leave Cahillane Auto (on Damon Rd.) after they refused to accept his check in payment ($137) for towing his truck as directed by the Northampton PD under the snow emergency parking ban.
December through March is tow season in the Amherst Northampton area. If it's going to snow, and you're parked on street, they tow. UMass police officers also order towing for other kinds of illegal parking year round.

Alden,
I have always believed Maura was abducted in New Hampshire and given that NHSP have stated, under oath, there's a 75% of conviction it sounds like my beliefs are founded.

The fact that NHSP has refused the aid of the FBI should answer the rest of your questions Alden.

In fact, they were both discussing with each other how to get Nader back into the 2004 race against Kerry so Nader could siphon off Kerry votes the way he siphoned off Gore votes in Florida in 2000. Congratulations to the Florida Green Party for that first Bush/Cheney victory. And I'll leave it at that.

If NHSP refused - whatever that specifically means - the assistance of the FBI, does that necessarily mean that the FBI or another federal law enforcement agency is not investigating or assisting in the investigation of Maura Murray's disappearance?
If UMass PD is investigating Maura's disappearance, which they appear to be, then couldn't the FBI have been asked by UMass PD to assist? In fact, didn't the FBI already do some preliminary work in MA?
Just because NHSP officially refused FBI assistance doesn't mean the FBI or some other federal LE agency is not involved, does it?
If Maura was abducted, then isn't that basically the same thing as her having been kidnapped? Is there a difference? Isn't kidnapping, at least the kidnapping of a minor, a federal crime?
Does the FBI always reveal when they are actively investigating a case?
